Chapter I: Foreword

Text size

The authors have made every effort to write these little stories in language that will be intelligible to very little children.

They have observed that it is much easier to hold a small child’s attention when _telling stories_, rather than when reading them aloud. So they have tried to put these stories in informal English, using frequent repetitions, with here and there an _interesting_ long word, and italicizing words on which emphasis is to be laid, their object being to write the stories as they would be told.
