Dot and the Kangaroo

"Dot and the Kangaroo" by Ethel C. Pedley is a children's book written in 1899. When five-year-old Dot gets lost in the Australian bush, she encounters a grey kangaroo who offers her magical berries that allow her to understand animal language. The kangaroo, who has lost her own joey, agrees to help Dot find her way home. Together they embark on a journey through the bush, meeting various marsupials and facing dangers including Aboriginal hunters and an animal court trial.
