Lilith

"Lilith: The legend of the first woman" by Ada Langworthy Collier is a narrative poem published in 1885. This five-book work reimagines the ancient rabbinical legend of Lilith, Adam's first wife who was cast from Eden. Created as Adam's equal, Lilith refuses to submit to his dominance and leaves Paradise. She weds Eblis, prince of devils, but finds her demonic children offer no maternal comfort. When Lilith discovers Eve nursing her child, jealousy drives her to a fateful act that forever links her name to mothers' lullabies.
