Chapter I: Section 210: provides in part: "The current catalog of copyright

Text size

entries and the index volumes herein provided for shall be admitted in any court as prima facie evidence of the facts stated therein as regards any copyright registration."

The information given in the entries for the period 1960-1969 is that which was recorded in catalog entries made at the time of registration. These entries recorded information taken from the original applications for the registration of the copyright claims, from descriptive material deposited with the applications and films at the time of registration, and from the films themselves. Slight changes in format of the entries have been made in some cases for the sake of consistency with present practices; these do not affect the essential facts presented. Each entry contains information which describes the film and identifies the copyright claimant as given in the application, the date of the beginning of the copyright term, and the copyright registration number.

Information relating to subsequent changes of ownership or to renewal copyrights recorded in the Copyright Office can be ascertained upon request and upon payment to the Register of Copyrights of the fee specified in the law for the conduct of a search of the records. Information relating to renewal copyrights can be secured by referring to the Renewal Registrations in the semiannual issues of the _Catalog of Copyright Entries_ at the renewal period. Moreover, the records of documents filed and registrations made in the Copyright Office are open to public inspection and searching.

The Copyright Office welcomes inquiries, suggestions, and comments on the content and organization of the _Catalog_. Such communications should be addressed to the Chief of the Cataloging Division, Copyright Office, Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. 20540.

Introduction

This catalog consists of two parts: _Motion Pictures, 1960-1969_, which is a list of main entries under title, and a _Name Index_.

Motion Pictures, 1960-1969

The items which constitute each entry in this section are given below in the order in which they appear. The title, name of the claimant, copyright date, and registration number are always given; other items are included if applicable to the motion picture and available.

1) Title, followed by alternate titles and/or subtitles.

2) Production statement including the name of the releaser.

3) Physical description, including running time or number of
reels, width of film, sound or silent, color or black and
white, etc.

4) Series statement.

5) Author and title of the work on which the film is based or
with which it is correlated.

6) Names given in the application which do not appear elsewhere
in the entry.

7) Name of the employer in the case of a work made for hire, if
so named in the application.

8) Information contained in the application which relates to
the registration of an earlier version of the work.

9) Brief statement of the new matter on which copyright is
claimed, preceded by the abbreviation NM, if this information
is given in the application and is not indicated elsewhere in
the entry.

10) Copyright symbol ©, followed by the name of the copyright
claimant.

11) For published works, date of publication as given in the
application; for unpublished works, the date on which the
last of all the items required to complete registration (i.e.,
description and representative prints, application, and fee)
was received in the Copyright Office.

12) Registration number.

For published works, whenever it is necessary to indicate a variation between the information given in the application and in the copy of the work with respect to the claimant's name or date of publication, the data from the application is given first followed by the phrase "in notice" and the data given in the work: e.g., © Richard Roe & Co.; 19Jan69 (in notice: 1968).

In the case of some motion pictures produced as serials, information relating to the entire serial precedes that relating to the individual numbers or episodes in the serial. More than one entry of a serial is made whenever the descriptive information or the claimant varies significantly for different parts of the serial. Individual issues of a serial are listed in numerical sequence, or by date, or alphabetically by issue title.

Name Index

The second section of this catalog lists the names of the persons and organizations associated with the production of the motion pictures described in the main section, and of the authors of the novels, dramas, or other works upon which these motion pictures are based. Similar names have been listed separately unless it is clear that they identify the same person or organization. Cross-references from different forms of the same name and from pseudonyms are included in the list. Under each name the titles of the motion pictures with which it is associated are listed alphabetically.
