series. Part 4. Motion pictures and filmstrips.

preface
The _Catalog of Copyright Entries_ for 1978 begins a new series. Published by authority of section 707 of Title 17 of the _United States Code_, this new Fourth Series coincides with the implementation of the Copyright Act of 1976 (Public Law 94-553).
The _Catalog_ is divided into eight parts. Five of these parts correspond to the administrative classes established under section 408(c) of Title 17 of the _United States Code_. Three additional parts consist of categories of works within these classes: maps, motion pictures/filmstrips, and serials/periodicals. The table at the end of this preface shows the organization of the _Catalog_ and the registration class designators. The parts of the _Catalog_ in which each entry is published are determined, in some cases, by both the registration class and the nature of the work covered by the registration. Some issues, therefore, will contain entries for registrations in classes in addition to those designated in the table.
All works listed in the _Catalog_ are entered under title, with an index of authors, claimants, and other names associated with the work. Filing is word by word. Titles which consist only of special characters are at the head of the _Catalog_, followed by titles beginning with Arabic numerals filed in numerical sequence. Each entry includes a bibliographic description followed by data relating to the copyright claim (name of the copyright claimant as given in the application for registration, date of creation, date of registration, copyright registration number, etc.). Except for renewals and supplementary registrations, the descriptive portion of the entries is formulated in a modified ISBD (International Standard Bibliographic Description) format. Some deviations from the prescribed format were necessary to better meet the needs of the Copyright Office.
Entries for published and unpublished material are interfiled. Entries for supplementary registrations are interfiled with entries for basic registrations, and should be consulted in conjunction with the entry for the original registration. Entries pertaining to original copyrights secured before January 1, 1978 but not registered until on or after January 1, 1978 are interfiled with entries pertaining to original copyrights secured under Public Law 94-553. Entries appearing in the _Catalog_ for the first time which pertain to pre-1978 registrations are filed and indexed in a separate section at the end of the _Catalog_.
Information pertaining to changes of copyright ownership is not included in the _Catalog_, but a search of Copyright Office files may be requested from the Register of Copyrights. A fee for the search and report will be estimated at the statutory rate of $10 per hour.
For each registration listed, except for renewals and supplementary registrations, there has been deposited one or two copies or phonorecords (or in some instances other identifying material) of the work in accordance with the provisions contained in section 408 of Title 17 of the _United States Code_. Such deposits may be selected for inclusion in the collections of the Library of Congress. Library of Congress printed cards are available for many of the published works so selected. Orders for such cards or inquiries concerning them should be addressed to the Cataloging Distribution Service Division, Building 159, Navy Yard Annex, Washington, D.C. 20541.
For a more complete description of the contents of this issue of the _Catalog_ see the Introduction.
Orders for individual issues, subscriptions for one or more parts, or for the complete _Catalog_, should be sent to the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. 20402.
The Copyright Office welcomes inquiries, suggestions, and comments on the content and organization of the _Catalog_. Such communications should be addressed to the Chief of the Cataloging Division, Copyright Office, Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. 20559.

=Part 4= lists all registrations made for motion pictures and filmstrips for the period covered by this issue. The motion pictures listed include published as well as unpublished photoplays, documentaries, commercials, newscasts, educational films, industrial films, and other cinematographic works. Registrations for motion pictures and filmstrips are normally made in class PA. However, because the registration classes established by the Copyright Office under section 408(c) of Title 17 of the _United States Code_ are for administrative purposes only, some works included in Part 4 of the _Catalog_ may be registered in other classes.
Basic Registrations
Each entry includes the items of information listed below, if available and applicable. Major areas of information in the bibliographic description are separated by paragraphing and by period-space-dash-space within paragraphs. Individual elements within these areas are separated by prescribed ISBD (International Standard Bibliographic Description) punctuation as indicated below.
_Bibliographic Description_
1. Title proper: other titles: other title information, including
serial numbering / statement(s) of responsibility for the
production.
2. Edition statement / statement(s) of responsibility for the
edition.
3. Location of releaser-publisher: name of releaser-publisher, year
of publication as stated on the work.
4. Physical description.
5. (Series; numbering within the series: subseries; numbering within
the subseries)
6. Notes. Information is given here which serves to supplement the
data that is given elsewhere in the entry in order to describe a
work more accurately or identify it more explicitly.
7. Cast.
8. Credits.
_Copyright Facts_
1. Copyright symbol ©.
2. A statement of limitation of claim to a certain portion of the
work if the application and notice on the work explicitly limit
the claim (for works published before January 1, 1978 only).
3. Name of the copyright claimant.
4. Statement, preceded by the designation "Nature of copyrightable
authorship," of information included in the application which
delineates the authorship covered by the registration (included
only when necessary for clarity).
5. Names of authors or titles given in the application which do not
appear elsewhere in the entry.
6. Indication that an author's contribution to the work is anonymous,
if so stated in the application.
7. Name of the employer in the case of a work made for hire, if so
named in the application.
8. Information contained in the application which is related to the
registration of an earlier version of the work.
9. Brief statement of preexisting material identified in the
application, if not indicated elsewhere in the entry.
10. Brief statement of the new matter on which copyright is claimed,
preceded by the abbreviation NM, if this information is given in
the application and is not indicated elsewhere in the entry.
11. Year date of creation, preceded by the abbreviation DCR.
12. Date of publication (for published works only), preceded by the
abbreviation PUB.
13. Effective date of registration, preceded by the abbreviation REG.
14. Registration number.
For published works, whenever it is necessary to indicate a variation between the information given in the application and in the copy of the work with respect to the claimant's name or the date of publication, the data from the application is given first, followed by the phrase "in notice" and the data given on the work; e.g., PUB 10Jan78 (in notice: 1977). For works published before January 1, 1978, all major variances are reflected in the entry. For works published on or after January 1, 1978, variant or different names appearing in the notice are included for bibliographic purposes only if the name or name variant in the notice has not been entered elsewhere in the entry, and year dates appearing in the notice are given only if the latest year date in the notice is earlier than the date of publication given in the application.
Supplementary Registrations
Entries for supplementary registrations include the following items of information, if available and applicable.
1. Title and authors' names as they appeared in the basic
registration.
2. Statement that the entry is for a supplementary registration,
followed by the basic registration number and year date of
registration.
3. Identification of corrected or amplified information which is not
included in the catalog entry (i.e., address, citizenship, etc.).
4. Contents.
5. Copyright symbol ©.
6. Name of the copyright claimant.
7. Corrected/amplified information followed by the related
information as it appeared in the basic registration, if the
original information is included in the application for
supplementary registration.
8. Effective date of supplementary registration, preceded by the
abbreviation REG.
9. Supplementary registration number.
