Precaution: A Novel

"Precaution: A Novel" by James Fenimore Cooper is a novel published in 1820. Set in England during the spring of 1815, it follows the relationship between Emily Moseley and George Denbigh. Written after Cooper's wife challenged him to prove he could write better than a dull English novel he was reading, the work was initially published anonymously and attributed to an English woman. Though not commercially successful, it launched Cooper's celebrated literary career.
