"Shasta of the Wolves" by Olaf Baker is a feral child novel published in 1919. When a she-wolf discovers an abandoned Native American baby on a Pacific Northwest mountain, she raises him alongside her cubs. Growing up wild and able to communicate with animals, the boy lives between two worlds—the wilderness that nurtured him and the human tribe that claims him as their own. As danger threatens from enemy raiders, Shasta must draw upon both his wolf family and his human heritage to survive.
