"The Birds of Australia, Vol. 4 of 7" by John Gould is a natural history work published between 1840 and 1848. This groundbreaking survey documented 681 Australian bird species, including 328 previously unknown to Western science. Created from specimens Gould collected during his travels across Australia, the volume features hand-colored lithographic plates drawn primarily from his wife Elizabeth's original sketches. Only 250 complete sets were printed for subscribers, making this ambitious work a rare treasure of ornithological illustration.
