The Blessed Damozel

"The Blessed Damozel" by Dante Gabriel Rossetti is a poem first published in 1850. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven," it reverses the perspective of earthly grief. The poem depicts a damozel in heaven yearning for reunion with her earthly lover. Rossetti later painted the scene, creating paired artwork and verse. The poem inspired musical compositions by Debussy and others, cementing its place as Rossetti's most famous work.
