The Forest Giant

"The Forest Giant" by Adrien Le Corbeau is a novel translated into English in 1923 by T. E. Lawrence. This obscure work, originally written in French, presents what Lawrence called "a magnificent idea" despite his disdain for its execution. The translation itself became a point of literary interest, revealing Lawrence's deep knowledge of French literature and his meticulous craftsmanship as a translator, even when working with material he found frustrating. A later edition featured woodcut illustrations by Agnes Miller Parker.
