He rushes home to claim Margaret, only to meet pride, rivals, and a wary promise softened by affection. Meanwhile, a Spanish noble, Don Pedro de Mendoza, is wrecked on the Cornish coast, foreshadowing an intimate collision of enemies that will propel the plot.
