Text size

English.

The great City where the first man is,
Fully I name the Town to you,
Shall be alarmed and the Souldier in the field,
Shall be by Fire and Water greatly afflicted,
And at last shall be helped by the _French_,
But it shall be from six hundred and ten years.

ANNOT.

That great City where the first man is, is _Amsterdam_, because the first Letter and the last Sylable of it maketh _Adam_: But of her affliction by Fire and Water, and of her being relieved by the _French_ in the year 1610. I can find nothing in the History; those that are better furnished with Books than I am, may chance to satisfie themselves and others, better than I can do.
