The Young Salesman

"The Young Salesman" by Horatio Alger, Jr. is a novel written in the late 19th century. The story follows a young boy named Scott Walton, who, after losing his father on the passage from England to America, arrives in New York City determined to make his own way in life. With limited funds and no family aside from distant relatives, Scott faces numerous challenges as he seeks employment and strives to build a future amidst the bustling metropolis. Despite the hardships Scott faces, including an unkind reception from his relatives and the cruel realities of poverty, he exhibits resilience and determination as he begins working in a dry-goods store. The opening chapters set the stage for his journey of self-discovery and ambition against the backdrop of a rapidly changing America.
