"Martha; or, The Fair at Richmond" by Friedrich von Flotow is a romantic comic opera composed in 1847. When Lady Harriet Durham, weary of court life, disguises herself as a servant at Richmond fair for amusement, she unexpectedly finds herself legally bound for a year to Lyonel, a young farmer who falls deeply in love with her. As class boundaries clash with genuine emotion, Harriet must navigate the consequences of her impulsive masquerade while concealing her true identity from the man whose heart she has captured.
