_Note also that all Infinitiue moodes may be made substantiues (as among nounes hath beene said) which admit no Article but the Masculine, agreeing with Nounes, with Verbs, with indeclinable parts, and with all cases, as for example_, L'amáre ẻ cósa naturále. In vn báttere d'ócchi[o], &c. _all which Nounes or manner of speech the English expresse very elegantly with a gerond, as thus. Louing is a naturall thing. Doing good is commendable. Thy dinner or dining cost me deare. Too much sleeping is not wholesome. In the twinkeling of an eye &c._

_Note also that certain Infinitiues of the third coniugation doe in the midst of them sometimes loose a letter and sometime a sillable, whereby they become irregular not only in the Infinitiue, but also in the Future tence of the Indicatiue, and in the second or respectiue Inperfectence of the subiunctiue moode, as also many times in the Participle. As for example_, Sciógliere, _maketh_, Sciórre, Sciorrò, Sciorrẻi, _and_ Sciólt[o], Scẻgliere, _maketh_, Sciẻrre, Sciẻrrò, Sciẻrrẻi, Sciẻlt[o], Tógliere, _maketh,_ Tórre, Torrò, Torrẻi, Tólt[o], Béuere, _maketh_, Bére, Berrò, Berrẻi, Beút[o], Ponere, _maketh_, Pórre, Porrò, Porrẻi, Póst[o], _with all his compounds, as_ C[o]mpórre, Dispórre, Frapórre, Espórre, [O]ppórre, &c. Dúcere, _makes,_ Dúrre, Durrò, Durrẻi, Dútt[o], _with all his compounds, as_ Addúrre, C[o]ndúrre, Dedúrre, Pr[o]dúrre, Ridúrre, Sedúrre, Tradúrre, &c. _Note also that the Italians haue a great liberty and facility to frame certaine verbes of the first coniugation, whereby they may elegantly declare, forcibly expresse, and significiently inforce the quality, action, condition, or the nature of any thing, person or creature, which is by adding_, ggiáre, _or_ záre _vnto any Noune (alwaies prouided it end in_ E.) _be it of Person, Office, Beast, Bird, or any thing else aliue or dead. As for example_. Caneggiáre, _to play the Dog_. Carneualeggiáre, _to Shroue_. Nataleggiáre, _to keep Christmasse_. Li[o]neggiáre, _to play the Lyon_. D[o]tt[o]reggiáre, _to play the Doctor_. Villeggiáre, _to liue in the Countrey_. Pasqueggiáre, _to keepe Easter_. Porcheggiáre, _to play the Swine or wallow in filth_. Pasteggiáre, _to fare well as if one were still eating of pasties_. Vaccheggiáre, _to play the Kow or sensuall beast_. Vesc[o]ueggiáre, _to play the Bishop or idle Prelate_. V[o]lpeggiáre, _to play the Foxe or crafty companion, and so infinite others which a man may frame at his pleasure or humour_.

_Note also that the Italians make some verbes end in_ Acchiáre, _which are spoken either in ill part and derision, or else in signe of pouerty and compassion, as_ Viuacchiáre, _to liue poorely, as we say to rub out the world_. Scriuacchiáre, _to scribble simply or write foolishly_. S[o]nnacchiáre, _to slumber or not to sleep soundly_. Pacchiáre, _to feede like a Hog, or play the Hog_. Basciucchiáre, _to kisse smackingly or slouenly_. Stiracchiáre, _to wrest in ill part, and infinite others as pleaseth mans fansie_.

_First note that all participles of verbes of the first coniugation must end in_ At[o]. _and you may frame them by taking_ Re. _from the Infinitiue, and in steede of it put_ To. _vnto it, with the accent ouer the last_ A. _as_ Amát[o]. Ballát[o]. Cantát[o]. Mangiát[o]. &c. _except that of_ Fáre, _which makes_ Fátt[o].

_Note also that some haue vsed the first person singular of the Indicatiue moode for a participle of some verbes (and it is tollerable) as_ C[ó]mpr[o]. M[ó]zz[o]. Pést[o]. S[ó]lc[o]. T[ó]cc[o]. &c. _in place of_ C[o]mprát[o]. M[o]zzát[o]. Pestát[o]. S[o]lcát[o], T[o]ccát[o]. &c.

_Note that the participles of the second and third coniugation (nothwithstanding all variations) doe generally end in_ V´t[o], _and may be framed by taking_ Ere. _from the Infinitiue, and putting_ V´t[o] _vnto the same with the accent ouer the_ V´. _yea there are many verbes that haue no other, as_ Dolút[o], Godút[o], Hauút[o], Nociút[o], Pasciút[o], P[o]ssedút[o], Taciút[o], Tẻssút[o], &c. _as also_, Parút[o], Vedút[o], Piangiút[o], Nasciút[o], &c. _For_ Párs[o], Víst[o], Piánt[o], Nát[o], &c. _whose variations, and which of them is most in vse, are euery one set downe in my Dictionaire, ioyned vnto the Infinitiue, and here vnder among the Irregular verbes: indeede there are some of the third coniugation that haue altogether lost their ending in_ V´t[o], _as_ Cínt[o], Dútt[o], Circ[o]ncís[o], Cólt[o], Cótt[o], Dipínt[o], Decís[o], Fínt[o], Póst[o], R[ó]tt[o], Sciẻlt[o], Sciólt[o], Tínt[o], Vccís[o], &c. _of_ Cíngere, Dúrre, _or_ Dúcere, Circ[o]ncídere, Cógliere, Cuócere, Dipíngere, Decídere, Fíngere, Pónere, _or_ Pórre, R[ó]mpere, Sciẻgliere, _or_ Sciẻrre, Sciógliere, _or_ Sciorre, Tíngere, Vccídere, &c. _except_ Éssere, _which makes_ Stát[o]. _although some haue vsed_ Sút[o]. _but more in verse then in prose_, Fáre _sincopated of_ Fácere, _makes_ Fátt[o], Díre, _of_ Dícere, _makes_ Détt[o], &c.

_Note that ioyning any Participle vnto_ Hauére, _you frame the past Participle of all verbes actiue, as_ Hauére amát[o]. Hauére godút[o]. Hauére scrítt[o]. Hauére vdít[o]. &c. _Concerning the Participles ending in_ Ánte. _or_ Énte. _whereof the Latines are so well stored, the Italians make but little vse of them, and may well spare them; for, it were but harsh and vnused Italian to say_, Beát[o] il temẻnte Iddí[o], ẻ credẻnte álla súa paróla, ẻ speránte nélle súe promésse, _or thus_. _Those of the second, third, and fourth coniugation ought euer to end in_ Énd[o]. _as_ Vedẻnd[o]. Tacẻnd[o]. Leggẻnd[o]. Scriuẻnd[o]. Dormẻnd[o]. Morẻndo. &c. _The_ E. _being pronounced open_.

_The past Geronds of all verbes actiue are framed by adding any present participle vnto_ Hauẻnd[o], _as_ Hauẻnd[o] amát[o]. Hauẻnd[o] g[o]dút[o]. Hauẻnd[o] scrítt[o]. Hauẻnd[o] dormít[o], &c. _and all past Geronds of verbes passiue are framed by adding any present participle vnto_, Essẻnd[o]. _as_ Essẻnd[o] amát[o]. Essẻnd[o] ferít[o]. Essẻnd[o] vedút[o]. Essẻnd[o] tẻssút[o], &c.

_Note that the Italians doe many time in expressing the past Gerond, leaue the helpe of_ Hauẻnd[o] _in actiue verbes, and of_ Essẻnd[o] _in passiue verbes, vsing in place of them both in speaking and writing only the present Participle, placing it in the beginning of the sentence, as thus_, Hauút[o] il mi[o] libr[o] me ne andái á scuóla. Fátta c[o]lati[ó]ne i[o] vád[o] á spáss[o]. Stát[o] a R[ó]ma trè mési me ne t[o]rnái á cása. _Which is as good as to say_, Hauẻnd[o] hauút[o] il mi[o] líbr[o] me ne andái a scuóla. Hauẻnd[o] fátta c[o]lati[ó]ne i[o] vád[o] a spáss[o], _or_ Essẻnd[o] stát[o] a R[ó]ma trè mesi me ne t[o]rnái a cása, &c.

_Note that all future Geronds may be framed by adding any Infinitiue moode vnto_, Hauẻnd[o] ad, _before a vowell, or_ Hauẻnd[o] a, _before a consonant, or else_, D[o]uẻnd[o], _or else_, Esẻnd[o] per, _as thus_, Hauẻnd[o] ad amáre. Hauẻnd[o] a lẻggere. Hauẻnd[o] a scríuere. D[o]uẻnd[o] g[o]dére. D[o]uẻnd[o] mangiáre. D[o]uẻnd[o] moríre. Essẻnd[o] pẻr vdíre. Essẻnd[o] pẻr partíre. Essẻnd[o] pẻr vedére, _and so of all others_.

_Pardon me, I beseech you Maiesty, if I haue beene somewhat ouer-long about this verbe, of which much more might be said: the necessity of it is such as no man can truely speake or write Italian without it, and knowing this verbe perfectly, he may boldy assume to know and frame all other verbes._

Of the second Auxiliare and most necessary verb Éssere.

_Forasmuch as this verbe_ Éssere _is irregular, and yet as necessary and of as much vse for coniugating of passiue verbes in the Italian tongue, as_ Hauére _is for actiues, I haue therefore set it downe, and how it ought to be vsed, as also what vse may be made of it, both in speaking and writing, and according to the method vsed in_ Hauére, _for the naming of tences; the rather for that it is most absurdly and falsly set downe in all the Grammars that are seen in England, desiring your Maiesty to make_ Hauére _your rule, and directorie for names of moodes and tences, for the vse and difference of them, as also for the helpes and signes to them_.

_The precedent passiue verbes seeme to be verie like Impersonals, and to haue sone affinitie with them, both because they are framed after one manner with the adiunct of the Particle_, Si, _eyther before or after; as also because they haue onely the third persons. But they are easie to be knowne by their signification, which euer differs in construction and is alwaies without the Nominatiue case, as also by the number which is euer singular.
