The Generator here illustrated is the Cavendish “A.B.C.” (automatic), and is considered the most simple and economical now before the public. The attention needed that of a lad or odd man, is not more than ten minutes daily, and much less than the time required by lamps. There are no mechanical parts except two water taps, and nothing to get out of order or readily wear out. The generating apparatus consists of the central gas holder, on each side of which is a generating chamber and a condenser. The generating chambers are in duplicate and work independently, which is a great advantage in admitting of re-charging always being done in daylight without wasting unspent material. The gas given is cool and clean. There is no compression of gas or variable pressure from the holder. There is a positive working escape pipe if the holders should be carelessly over-charged. The Insurance Companies charge no extra premiums where this Generator is used.

Current can be supplied at 2·4d. per Board of Trade unit (this includes depreciation, fuel, wages, and stores).

In designing the sets it has been borne in mind that they will not be operated by a skilled mechanic, but probably by a gardener or handy man. Everything, therefore, has been constructed with the object of making the whole plant simple and yet absolutely reliable.

Cheaper sets can be supplied if desired, but the results of a long experience prove that the set illustrated can be thoroughly recommended in every way.

PLATES.--The plates are manufactured from the purest lead obtainable,
and have a large working surface, combined with great
mechanical strength, thus ensuring good efficiency combined
with long life.

BOXES.--The boxes are of glass, so that the inspection of the plates
is facilitated. The plates are suspended from the sides of
the boxes, and ample clearance is allowed between the bottom
of plates and the bottom of the box.

ACID.--This is of the best quality specially prepared for use in
batteries.

STANDS.--These are made of the best pitch pine and coated with
anti-sulphuric enamel.

Ferranti Electric Disc Stove for boiling, grilling, and toasting.

Very popular because of its general usefulness and portability. It will accomplish all the work usually done on a gas ring, with greater cleanliness and economy. Scientifically designed so that no heat is wasted. The best results are obtained with clean flat-bottomed utensils. An extension plate to allow two or three utensils to be used at one time, together with silver grill and toaster, may be obtained in Harrods’ Electrical Showrooms.

Ferranti Electric Duplex Disc Stove for boiling, simmering, toasting, and baking.

This apparatus forms the basis of a complete kitchen equipment.

The Heating Discs are extremely useful for many culinary operations, and are made flush with the main plate so that several utensils can be placed half on for simmering on the low heat. Each disc can be switched on separately and regulated high or low, thus providing five ranges of heat in the oven, viz.:--1 disc low, 200 watts; 2 discs low, 400 watts; 1 disc high, 800 watts; 1 disc high and 1 disc low, 1000 watts; 2 discs high, 1600 watts. The frame is of cast iron, well enamelled, with nickelled edges. The whole apparatus is strong enough for rough kitchen use and yet well finished to encourage cleanliness and care.
