DYEING & CLEANING DEPARTMENT
A PUBLIC TELEPHONE IS PROVIDED IN THIS DEPARTMENT FOR CUSTOMERS’ USE.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS.
HOW TO SEND GOODS.--Customers sending Goods for Cleaning or Dyeing are particularly requested to enclose in the parcels their Name and Address, with full particulars and instructions.
Parcels sent from the Country should always be advised per post, as by so doing delay and miscarriage are prevented.
DELIVERY AND COLLECTION.--Goods are collected and delivered free in London and Suburbs, but the articles must be in readiness, securely tied up, to go by the carts when they call, as the large delivery and collection of Goods will not permit of any delay. Name and address should be enclosed in each parcel, also instructions.
NON-LIABILITY.--Harrods give notice that Goods are received only on condition that they be not held responsible for loss arising from any fault there may be in the material, and which is developed in the process of dyeing or cleaning, or for shrinkage; every possible care is exercised with goods which are faded and tender, but all work undertaken at OWNER’s RISK.
CANNOT GUARANTEE.--Goods ordered to be dyed to match pattern the exact shade cannot be guaranteed, but Harrods always dye as nearly as possible to the shade selected.
PRICE LIST.
The following prices have been carefully prepared, and may be taken as a safe guide, although Harrods do not hold themselves bound to them in all cases, owing to the immense variety in style and quality of articles sent. A definite estimate can always be given before putting work in hand, and quotations for quantities supplied on application.

Glazing a Speciality.
Harrods have fitted up in this Department the most approved machines for Polishing Dance Cloths, Carpet Covers, and Stair Damask.
They have also a special method for drying, which ensures perfect freedom from Creases and an even surface.
Chintz Glazing is also a special study; and those requiring good work at moderate charges would do well to give Harrods a trial.
CRETONNES, CHINTZES, and COTTON GOODS seldom clean successfully by the CHEMICAL process. Harrods therefore claim to use their discretion as to the methods most suitable.
The WHITE ground of CRETONNES and CHINTZES can be tinted with a very pretty effect, and without changing the colour in the design. This is an advantage where the colours are washed out or faded.
ORDINARY (or Wet) CLEANING is specially studied, as many articles when stained or discoloured by wear can only be restored to anything like their original condition by this method. A number of new appliances enable Harrods to CLEAN and FINISH the work in a superior manner.

Silk Dress Fabrics.
After many experiments a process has been discovered whereby we are able to dye Silk goods without unpicking or removing trimmings, and by the adoption of this method the original lustre of the fabric is maintained.
The result is an “Equal to New” appearance of such things as Brocades, Satins, and Silks.
This method of treatment is particularly recommended for valuable Ball and Evening Dresses, Silk Tea Gowns, Mantles and Costumes, as it involves no risk of deterioration of material. Prices upon application.

ANTIQUE AND MODERN LACE of every description in Handkerchiefs, Collars, Cuffs, etc., beautifully cleaned or tinted and finished as when new.

LACE SHAWLS, JACKETS, VEILS, etc., dyed and finished.
LACE DYED all colours. Black Lace re-dyed. All laces are done at owner’s risk, and the value of expensive lots should be notified, to ensure special attention.
Important Improvement in Silk Finishing.
It cannot be too widely known that, after much patient experiment, Harrods have designed and perfected a machine for softening and imparting a clear surface and the original lustre and brilliance to silks after dyeing.
Everyone knows the complaints so general about Dyed Silks--viz., that they are hard and papery, and have lost their former suppleness. This can no longer be said about Silks, either for Dresses or for Upholstery, dyed by Harrods.
N.B.--Owing to the use of chemicals in the production of many Glacé and other makes of bright finished silks, the traces of which cannot be detected before immersion, Harrods do not undertake any risk in cleaning or dyeing; in all cases these goods are treated with the greatest care to ensure a satisfactory result, but only at owner’s risk.
